Project statement / English

This project originates from an interior design proposal for the adaptive reuse of Chatham Dockyard, a former naval shipyard shaped by layered industrial and military histories. Shifting from architectural design to photography and installation, the project draws on Michel Foucault’s concept of heterotopia, approaching the dockyard as a space where multiple temporalities and functions coexist.

Using small paper boat models combined with projected architectural drawings and archival imagery, the work constructs a speculative model-space. Informed by Jean Baudrillard’s notion of simulation, photography captures moments where model, projection, and physical site collapse into a single image, presenting the dockyard as an unstable space suspended between historical reality and imagined futures.
